Maxine Syjuco

is an artist, poet, and model based in Manila, Philippines. Her expertise is in the fields of photography, digital collage, painting, mixed media, and installation. Depicted through an amalgamation of styles such as surrealism, impressionism, and hyperrealism, the subjects of Maxine’s works dwell within the depths of philosophical themes concerning the human condition. Every piece tells a story told by the theatrical positioning of different figures and techniques throughout the canvas. All these narratives are visible in her work located in Sentro Artista entitled “Syllables of Light”.

Michelline Syjuco

started her artistic underpinnings at a young age. When she was just four years old, she was the country’s youngest painter to be featured in the juried Annual Exhibition of the Art Association of the Philippines. Eventually, her name became a staple in both fields of visual arts and fashion, having received multiple awards in both. Sentro Artista is currently housing four of Michelline Syjuco’s paintings which are under the “Visceral Dreamscapes Series” and “Revelation II Series.

Tanya Gaisano Lee

is a self-taught artist from Davao, Mindanao who began pursuing her artistic career in 2014. She initially started exploring her practice with pen and ink, creating black-and-white patterns before incorporating vibrant acrylic colors in her works which eventually grew into her signature style.

Mylene Quito

From figuration to abstraction, Mylene Quito captures the intensity and turmoil of her emotions through her powerful paintings. Known for her maximalist renditions, she incorporates famous iconographies such us the mother and child with curious patterns and complex color harmonies.

Fatima Baquiran

was born on March 8, 1971. She is the daughter of distinguished Filipino artists Angelito Antonio and Norma Belleza, as well as the sister of painter Emil Antonio and well-known modern artist Marcel Antonio. Her current success in visual arts was already implicit in the earlier bouts of her career as she finished her Fine Arts degree, majoring in Painting, at the University of Santo Tomas. She is well renowned for her floral still lifes, which she creates with a variety of impastoed hues and an Impressionist finish. Two of her works entitled “Flowers & Orchids” and “Flower Blooms” are currently on display at Sentro Artista gallery.

Mrini

Mrini’s abstraction is a terrific explosion of colors. Inspired by nature’s elegance and grace, she appreciates organic forms and compositions, loose brushstrokes, and interesting pours of hues scattered uniquely onto each surface. She believes that art, in any form, promotes peace and harmony, such as her works that share a sense of wonder and excitement.

Melissa Yeung Yap

is a natural farmer, an artist, and a social entrepreneur. She used indigenous and cultural aspects in her modern creations as part of her humanitarian endeavors and as a support for our local artisans. Several of Yeung Yap’s well-known works are elaborate mixed-media creations featuring local handwoven textiles and Philippine Flora. One of her artworks titled “Piña Seda,” is currently on show at Sentro Artista gallery. It is a hand-embroidered Piña Seda (pineapple silk) and acrylic on canvas inside a frame hand-drawn by MYY & hand-carved by Jerwin Tulio from Tarlac.

Ayen Quias

is a professional full-time artist who has discovered the power of art within herself. She recognized early on that she possessed the ability to use her hands to create something beautiful and extraordinary. She dabbled in painting for a while before deciding to devote herself to her craft as a serious artist in 2012. Sentro Artista gallery showcases five of her artworks which are comprised of stacked tiny colorful houses. Her works are are playful in sight, enticing the viewers of both her wall-mounted and standing sculptures.

Joanne Cariaso-Gacayan

was raised amidst the scenic seas and hills of La Union, honing her artistry at an early age together with her siblings and cousins. She took up Bachelor of Fine Arts at the College of the Holy Spirit, Manila and graduated with Honors. In 1999, she graduated with a Master’s degree in Family Mediation together with her husband, Emmanuel Gacayan in Scuola Loreto, Loppiano, Florence, Italy. She always loved painting with oils and pastels but eventually became inclined to watercolor. Joanne highly appreciates watercolor’s transparency as a medium and intuitively, as your state of emotion. It responds to each motion and sentiment you bring on an empty paper. For Joanne, as much as watercolor demands one’s mindfulness in each brushstroke, it correlates to a lesson of being present in each moment as life challenges us each day. It teaches the discipline of the NOW. Joanne is a member of the Artists Guild of La Union (AGLAUN) and is the incumbent VP for Local Experiences of the Philippine Guild of Watercolorists.

Kahlila Baquiran

is one of the artist painters in their home. Just like her parents (Randy and Fatima Baquiran) and grandparents (Angelito and Norma Antonio), she graduated from the University of Santo Tomas last 2018 majoring in Industrial Design. Her love for art started when she was young. Living with a family of artists made her want to create her own art style as well. She likes experimenting with different materials and incorporating it into her works to achieve a unique style. One of her inspirations and her favorite things to paint are bears because she has two lovely bears (chow chow) in her life. She likes making paintings that are lively and loud in design and in colors simply because it brings her joy. Her main goal as an artist is to spread happiness and good vibes to others with her work of art.

Kwin Chi

started her career as a tattoo artist, honing exemplary skills which define her signature style as a full-time painter today. With keen attention to detail and a palette filled with sweet, pop candy hues, she brings her doll-like characters to life as if unraveling layers of fairytale adventures. Her pop surrealist takes and doe-eyed dolls bring a sense of nostalgia, revealing both vulnerability and strength as she plays with the concept of childhood and adulthood and the delights and troubles that come in between.

Elsie “Inday” Ilagan Reyes-Cadapan

(September 12, 1939 – January 7, 2004) is a prominent feminist icon in the Philippine art milieu. Through her works, she accentuated different social issues that are relevant during her time, and conceivably until today. The most notable characteristics of Inday’s work, as seen in her subjects, are the way she exposes the chronic marginalization of women and toxic masculinity, both of which are embedded and explicitly evident in the culture. She also wanted to draw attention and respect to the much belittled “Inday,” which is originally a term of endearment but eventually became a patronizing word associated with house help.

Inday’s style is made expressive with the admixture of flowing lines and medley of vibrant colors. Her expression of figures and narratives are straightforward, yet intruiguing at the same time. The passionately exuberant qualities of her technique made her works still pertinent to this day as her simple, yet meaningful, depictions reflect the Philippine culture’s resiliency.
